Raceday event supports education programme

2 December 2016

Over 1,500 Club members enjoyed an afternoon at the races and helped to raise over £3,000 for a good cause at the same time.

The CIU Education Programme was the clear winner at the 2016 Dransfields CIU Charity Raceday, held at Wetherby Racecourse and sponsored by Dransfields, the CIU’s preferred supplier of gaming, amusement and lottery machines.

The racecourse and its catering firm both donated £1 for every Union member at the event, raising a fantastic £3,080 for the education programme. The programme aims to help members run their clubs more efficiently, by running courses on topics such as employment law and club administration.

George Dawson CMD, Union President, said: “Dransfields CIU Charity Raceday is one of the highlights of the Union’s calendar and it was great to see over 1,500 of our members supporting this annual event.

“In addition to an entertaining day’s racing and the chance to meet old and new friends, this day helped to raise funds for the Union’s Education Programme, with over £3,000 raised this year.

“We are grateful to Wetherby Racecourse and their caterers CGC for making this generous donation, as well as for their time, effort and help in putting on such a great day.

“We must express our gratitude to Dransfields for their continuing support of this event."

As the leading UK supplier of a range of club and pub fruit machines, quiz machines and jukeboxes, Dransfields were proud to sponsor a quality afternoon of racing.

One of seven races held on the day was the Dransfields CIU Charity Raceday Handicap Hurdle, which was won by 11/2 shot Lough Salt.

Managing Director Chris Haley said: “It was a pleasure to support this annual CIU event and catch up with so many of our friends from Union clubs.”
